Why use contact lenses instead of eyeglasses?

Most people choose to wear contacts because of the convenience and because they prefer the way they look without eyeglasses. Improvements in contact lenses over the last decade have made them more comfortable and easier to wear and manufacturers now supply a wide range of types and sizes. Several types of contact lenses are available to correct nearsightedness and other refractive errors. Contact lenses are sometimes used after cataract surgery as a replacement substitute, if an artificial lens cannot be implanted in the eye. Contact lenses can also provide better vision, especially with regard to improved peripheral vision and depth perception.

Some types of contact lenses

Colour Contact Lenses

The latest fashion is Cosmetic Colour Contact Lenses that naturally enhance your eye colour to match skin and hair colour. They say it can even change your mood!
SpecFactory colour contact lenses can change your eye colour while improving your vision or you can use coloured contact lenses just for changing eye colour without vision correction.

Although no prescription is necessary for Colour Contact Lenses, it is advisable to have your eyes checked every year. There are a number of serious problems and health risks that can go unnoticed if you don’t go for regular check-ups to your eye doctor, and some of them can cause a loss of vision and even blindness. And remember Colour contacts, like clear contact lenses, must be properly cleaned and disinfected with appropriate cleaning products.

Cosmetic eye colour contact lenses that have been specifically designed for cosmetic use have been clinically proven to be safe and easy to use, thus making these colour fashion lenses convenient for you and your lifestyle. The most popular contact lens colours are blue, green, violet, hazel, and honey, brown, turquoise, amethyst, and grey, pure hazel and true sapphire. Blue contact lenses are by far the most popular of all the colours available. Ask your eye doctor for more information about coloured contact designs and coloured contact lens care.

Please note, as stated above, you do not need a contact lens prescription to order any special effect or coloured contacts from us.

Soft Contact Lenses

A soft contact lens is made of a very soft flexible plastic material making it both comfortable and easy to wear. Soft lenses are also more fragile than hard lenses and also require more intensive cleaning.

Disposable Contact Lenses

Disposable Contact Lenses were introduced because it was believed that replacing lenses more often would reduce the risks of infectious or bacterial keratitis. Unlike conventional contact lenses, disposable soft contact lenses were designed to be worn for several weeks and then discarded. It is now the choice of new contact lens wearers to use disposable lenses.

There are two types of disposable lenses

Daily-wear disposable lenses are removed and cleaned daily, just like conventional lenses. They are worn for 2 to 4 weeks and then discarded.

Most extended-wear disposable lenses are designed to be worn day and night for 1 week and then discarded. Some lenses have recently been approved

Daily-wear lenses

Daily-wear soft lenses are removed and cleaned at night and reinserted in the morning. They provide sharp vision but are less durable.

Extended-wear lenses

Extended-wear lenses can be worn for up to a week at a time, day and night. They are then removed, cleaned, and reinserted. Due to the higher risk of eye infections, the recommended wearing time for extended-wear lenses has been shortened from 30 days to 7 days. It is always recommended not to wear contact lenses while you sleep.
